In ancient times, during the Ming dynasty, this place was known as the imperial garden. Later, during the Qing dynasty, a zoo was established here. One of the main attractions is the giant pandas, which are China’s national treasure and symbol. The zoo is also home to elephants, panthers, proboscis monkeys, albino tigers, red-footed ibises, and Japanese cranes. Another interesting feature is the Chinese Yangtze alligators, an endangered species. The reptile hall showcases crocodiles, pythons, and sea turtles. The zoo is also famous for its impressive aquarium collection.
